Holly Hunter, an American film and actress, is well-known for her stellar roles in movies such as Broadcast News The Firm The Piano The Incredibles. The film Piano earned her an Oscar. She began her career as an actress on Broadway and Off Broadway. As a child, Helen Keller was her most loved character from a fifth grade production. Her mumps left her blind and deaf in the one ear. But she refused to let that to stop her from becoming an actress. She was a drama major at the college before moving from Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania to New York City to follow her dream. Hunter was stuck in the elevator of playwright Beth Henley when she met her. Together they created Broadway Crimes of the Heart that marked the debut of Hunter on Broadway. When she moved to Los Angeles, she began looking for roles in films. Her first film role was as an actress supporting the lead character of Swing Shift. Holly Hunter has been in several television series, films and films over the course of a 30 year career. Holly Hunter received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was also awarded the Women in Film Lucy Award.
